制作人的话

本专辑来自于一盘非常珍贵的两轨高速开盘录音带。可惜的是在开盘带上并未标注录音时间，初步猜测录制于八十年代末九十年代初期。
本录音内容分为两个部分，第一部分是达吾列提演奏其他少数民族的民间乐曲，包括塔塔尔、蒙古、锡伯、柯尔克孜等民族；第二部分是达吾列提演奏哈萨克斯坦著名作曲家库尔曼哈孜的作品。
在马木尔的大力帮助之下，这个历史录音得以在旧天堂书店出版，给这盘蒙尘的录音带赋予了新的生命，是我们的幸运。
它也充实了我们一直非常重视的“档案录音”系列的核心内容（之前已经出版了《郭永章坠子选集》以及印度西塔琴演奏家尼基尔·班纳吉1967年在加州的录音），让更多的人听到了达吾列提·哈勒克精彩的演奏，并感受到哈萨克民族音乐的魅力。
同时，这也是一张音质不凡的唱片，希望大家能感受到并且喜欢它。

Producer’s Note
This album has its genesis in a precious reel-to-reel tape recording which we discovered in a radio station. It is unfortunate that the tape itself does not contain information on the date of recording, which we roughly speculate to be around the late-1980s to the early-1990s.
The recording in this album has two parts. The first is Daulet Halek’s interpretation of folk tunes from other ethnic minority groups, including the Tatars, the Mongols, the Sibe, and the Kyrgyz. The second part documents Daulet’s performance of works of the great Kazakh composer Kurmangazy Sagyrbaev.
Thanks to Mamer’s tremendous help, this historical recording is now published by Old Heaven Books. We are honoured to be able to give this deeply buried gem a new life.
This album is also an invaluable addition to Old Heaven Book’s “archival recording” series, a project we are seriously committed to. The series has generated two albums so far: Guo Yongzhang Zhuizi Selections (2019) and Nikhil Banerjee in California, 1967 (2020). This record will, to our delight, bring the graceful performance of Daulet Halek’s dombra, as well as the unique charm of Kazakh folk music, to a wider audience.
Lastly, we cannot help but mention that this is also a record with sublime audio quality. We sincerely hope you feel it and enjoy it as we do.

Dǝwlêt Haleⱪ ule / Daulet Halek

达吾列提·哈勒克（1939-2008），国家一级演奏员、作曲家，1939年12月21日出生于新疆阿勒泰地区青河县阿热勒托别镇喀拉尕什村。
达吾列提自幼受哈萨克民间音乐影响，少年时期通过唱片熟知很多哈萨克作曲家的作品并学习演奏，1956年加入伊犁哈萨克自治州歌舞团，成为专业冬不拉演员。1950年代，达吾列提多次赴北京参加文艺汇演，曾在1957年得到国家领导人的接见，并获得文化部颁发的荣誉证书。他还曾代表中国去中亚国家参加友谊演出，在国际舞台留下了动人的旋律；1994年在土耳其举行的第十一届卡尔塔尔国际艺术节中获演出一等奖。
文革期间，达吾列提被下放至青河县阿热勒托别乡（现为镇）进行劳动改造，直到1974年获得平反，重新回到伊犁哈萨克自治州歌舞团工作。
从1980年代初期开始，达吾列提游历新疆主要的哈萨克聚居区，以及甘肃阿克塞哈萨克自治县等地，收集的哈萨克民间乐曲及民歌有2000多首，为哈萨克文化遗产的抢救、收集、出版及研究做出重大贡献。达吾列提用冬不拉弹奏全国56个民族的各类曲子，用美妙的冬不拉声歌颂了各族人民深厚的友谊，达吾列提一生共创作17首乐曲，其代表作品有《幸福的源泉》、《阿吾勒的欢乐》、《双青河》等。

Daulet Halek (1939-2008) was a Kazakh Chinese music performer and composer. He was born on December 21, 1939 in Karagash Village, Araltobe Town, Qinggil County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang.
Raised under the influence of Kazakh folk music, Daulet came to know the works of many Kazakh composers and learned to play them through records. In 1956, he joined the Song & Dance Ensemble of Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture and became a professional dombra performer. During the 1950s, Daulet performed various times in Beijing, he was received by leaders of the nation in 1957 and awarded certificate of honour by the Ministry of Culture of China. As a representative of China, Daulet also performed abroad for audiences in Central Asia; in 1994, he won the first prize at the 11th Kartal International Art Festival held in Türkiye.
During the Cultural Revolution, Daulet was sent down to Araltobe Township (now Araltobe Town), Qinggil County, and sentenced to “reform through labour”. After his rehabilitation in 1974, Daulet resumed his job at the Song & Dance Ensemble of Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture.
From the early-1980s on, Daulet travelled to all major areas of Kazakh settlement in Xinjiang, as well as those in other provinces, including the Aksay Kazakh Autonomous County in Gansu Province. He collected and organised more than two thousand pieces of traditional Kazakh tunes and folk songs, making a significant contribution to the rescue, preservation, publication, and research of Kazakh cultural heritage. With his dombra, Daulet played a variety of tunes from the 56 ethnic groups in China, in praise of the deep friendship across all peoples. Daulet created a total of 17 compositions during his lifetime. His representative works include "The Source of Happiness", "Awule's Joy", "Shuangqing River", and many more.

库尔曼哈孜·萨赫尔拜吾勒 Ⱪurmanƣaze Saƣerbay ule / Kurmangazy Sagyrbaev

库尔曼哈孜·萨赫尔拜吾勒（1818-1889），哈萨克斯坦作曲家，民间音乐家，是哈萨克近代最伟大的冬不拉演奏家之一，其作品哲理丰富。库尔曼哈孜的一生非常坎坷，多次入狱，监狱被称为他的第二个家，直到60岁才获得自由。库尔曼哈孜创作了很多经典的冬不拉奎，其中有六十多首流传至今，达吾列提在这张唱片里演奏了四首他的作品。
Kurmangazy Sagyrbaev (1818-1889) was a Kazakh composer and folk artist. He is considered one of the greatest dombra performers in modern Kazakh history, and he is also known for the rich philosophical underpinning of his work. Kurmangazy lived a life through great hardships. A political prisoner arrested and incarcerated multiple times, the prison was said to be his “second home”, which he couldn’t leave behind until the age of sixty. Kurmangazy composed a great number of “dombra küy” pieces which are now considered classics, and over sixty have been handed down to the present. Four of them were performed by Daulet in this record.

奎 Küy/ Kui

哈萨克族民间音乐按照传统可大致分为“Küy (奎)”和“An(安)”两大类。所谓“奎”从演奏层面是指器乐曲，“安”泛指歌曲。“奎”根据各种乐器的演奏，分别冠以乐器名称，如“冬不拉奎”、“斯布孜额奎”、“库布孜奎”等。
In general, traditional Kazakh music can be classified into two genres: “Küy/Kui”, denoting instrumental pieces, and “An”, which refers broadly to vocal music. According to the type of instrument used in the performance, a piece of “küy” is further specified by adding the name of the instrument as prefix, for example, “dombra küy”, “sybyzgy küy”, and “kobyz küy”.

Considered Kurmangazy’s masterpiece, “Saryarka” was said to be a tribute to his fellow composer Tǝttimbêt, whom Kurmangazy paid a visit to in the area of Saryarka after escaping from the Irkutsk Prison.

Akbay is the father of Aubaker, a village bully who used to persecute Kurmangazy. Kurmangazy wrote this piece to denounce the evil deeds of the country squires in his time.

《阿拉山》是库尔曼哈孜在某次关押期间创作的曲子。Alataw音译为“阿拉套”，是位于中国新疆博尔塔拉蒙古自治州与哈萨克斯坦七河地区之间的山脉。
“Alatau”, named after the Dzungarian Alatau, a mountain range that lies on the boundary of the Dzungaria region of China and the Zhetysu region of Kazakhstan, was written during one of Kurmangazy’s prison sentences.

这首曲子名字就反映了库尔曼哈孜多舛的命运。1857年，库尔曼哈孜因带头反抗沙俄殖民者对自己所在部落的恶行而被捕关押于奥伦堡监狱，之后在一次逃狱途中被牧民收留，《卸脚镣》就是躲藏在牧民家养伤时创作的曲子。
The title itself epitomises Kurmangazy’s turbulent life. In 1857, Kurmangazy was arrested and held in Orenburg Prison for leading a rebellion of his clan against the Russian colonisers. During a subsequent prison escape, he was given shelter by a herdsman. “Unshackling” was written when he was hiding and recuperating in the herdsman’s home.
