plescanfan I'm now officially obsessed with tracking down more from this excellent band. Occasionally recalls Talking Heads ("Television") or Pink Floyd ("Wild Snow"), but at the end of the day it's its own spacey, funky rock blend that plays like nighttime snapshots of a desolate yet lived-in urban environment. It's great! Favorite track: B1 Runaway Train（2013）.

Deferent Golgi Odd psychedelic alt rock with a few even odder sentimental asides. It's hard not to love "Television" most of all, but the slow-moving "Sheep," with its throaty chanting, sounds downright occult. The entire album makes for an alluring sampler of a group I'd love to know more about. Favorite track: A1 电视 Television（1999）.

傀儡，法茹克和朋友们于1991年在乌鲁木齐成立的乐队。1999年，傀儡以作品《新疆时间三点》参加《中国火4》；后未发行。2008年录制并发行专辑《乌鲁木齐》，2013年再版重新缩混；2014年录制并发行专辑《32天》。这盒《傀儡自选》是傀儡不同时期作品的精选，其中《新疆时间三点》在之前的专辑都未收录。

Puppet is a rock band started in 1991 in Urumqi by Xinjiang musician Feruh (法茹克), it has gone on to become one of the longest living rock bands in China. The backbone of Xinjiang’s underground scene, Puppet has gone through numerous line-up changes while Feruh remains the only constant member and the mastermind behind the project. In 1997, Mamer joined Puppet and has since maintained a close relationship with the band. The band went on hiatus from 2002 to 2005, reformed in 2006, and finally released their full-length debut Urumqi in 2008, a sophomore titled 32 Days followed in 2014. Feruh is currently working on his new band 6501, named after the first four digits of identity card numbers in Xinjiang, 6501 released their debut Endgame in 2018 under Modern Sky’s Bad Head label.

This cassette is Puppet’s first greatest hits album, compiled by Feruh, with songs selected from different periods of the band’s history, the song “3 O’clock Xinjiang Time” is previously unreleased. Each cassette is hand-numbered and the release is limited to 300 copies.

Takes me back to my high school classroom during the days of binging Inio Asano's old manga scanlations before anything was licensed. At that time, I was discovering many kinds of Asian shoegaze, but I've never heard anything like this.
